Artist Pam Skehan has been selected to showcase two of her paintings, "Woman in Waiting" and "Tipping Point," at the upcoming Louisiana Contemporary exhibition. The works were chosen by juror Sarah Jones from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The annual event, hosted by the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, highlights the work of Louisiana-based creators. Jones curated the final selection from a pool of nearly 1,800 submissions, ultimately choosing 50 pieces from 45 different artists.
Skehan’s work is currently represented by the Wine Art Gallery, a New Orleans-based space focused on supporting female and underrepresented creators. The exhibition is scheduled to run from August 1, 2026, through February 14, 2027.
The Louisiana Contemporary exhibition serves as a barometer for the state's evolving creative landscape. By utilizing high-profile jurors from major national institutions like The Met, the Ogden Museum bridges the gap between regional talent and the broader art world.
This selection process underscores a growing emphasis on diversity and inclusion within the art market. Galleries that prioritize underrepresented voices are increasingly finding their artists featured in institutional exhibitions, proving that local talent can command national attention when provided with the right platforms.
