Newport Beach-based hardware startup ODORUN is set to debut its ANS-01RM unit on Kickstarter on July 14. The device is designed to attach to standard toilets to pull odors directly from the bowl and vent them outside.
Unlike traditional bathroom ventilation, which often circulates air within the room, this system captures emissions at the source. The hardware is cordless and rechargeable, intended to function without the need for chemical sprays or replacement filters.
The company aims to modernize bathroom ventilation by replacing passive exhaust fans and masking agents with active extraction. Installation is designed for DIY implementation, with the device utilizing a touchless interface and an automatic shut-off feature.
Household technology has seen a wave of smart upgrades in recent years, yet bathroom ventilation systems have largely remained static for decades. Reliance on ceiling-mounted fans or scented sprays has been the standard for residential odor management despite the inefficiency of simply redistributing airborne particles.
The move toward source-level extraction reflects a growing consumer interest in home health and air quality. By venting odors directly through existing plumbing channels, companies are attempting to address long-standing sanitation issues with hardware-based solutions rather than chemical alternatives.
