LaborLab has released a public search engine and cost calculator designed to expose the financial scale of employer-led anti-union campaigns. The platform pulls data from federal filings to identify the consultants and law firms hired to discourage workplace organizing.
The search tool aggregates information on over 800 consultants and 21,000 attorneys, allowing users to view campaign histories and billing data. By providing this transparency, the nonprofit aims to help workers identify patterns in how their employers utilize outside legal counsel.
A secondary feature, the cost calculator, estimates the total expenditure companies incur when fighting unionization efforts. This tool also highlights the potential wage increases workers might have received if those funds were redirected toward compensation rather than anti-union consultants.
The union-avoidance industry generates approximately $1.7 billion annually in the United States. While federal law requires the disclosure of many anti-union activities, the data is often buried in fragmented, difficult-to-navigate government databases.
These new digital tools attempt to bridge that information gap. By centralizing data from the Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board, LaborLab seeks to empower employees with the same level of strategic intelligence often used by management during organizing drives.
